At the final stages of last year, a collection of players ranging from 8 to 16 years of age, got together to discuss a new name to go with their fresh set of uniforms.
After a game of softball, the team got together and announced their collective decision to name themselves the Mudgee Ravens.
"We haven't had uniforms in Mudgee for a long time. Alan Walker had been collecting some over the years, I think these ones in particular came from the North Shore," Mudgee Softball secretary Tracy Lucas said.
"I said to the kids now that they have uniforms they will look professional so they need to come up with a name, they decided on the Mudgee Ravens."
With the competition penciled in for a January 30 start, teams will be sorted in the coming days.
While the final round is yet to be set in stone given COVID-19's uncertain nature, the association has a preference of timeline.
"We're going to try and split them [players] up into two teams and randomly select two captains. It's both boys and girls, we won't let them choose because the girls will choose the girls and the boys will choose the boys," Tracy said.
"We'll sort them based on their strengths and weaknesses so everyone gets a fair game.
"COVID pending, we're hoping to run the competition for eight to 10 weeks. It's about making friends and giving them something to do on a Saturday morning that they enjoy. They come from all walks of life.
"We don't have a huge range of players but they're slowly starting to come in which is brilliant."
