I'm not sure if it's just me, but I've reached a time in my life when I'm think "how the heck did I get to be this old?"

The thought has been niggling away in the back of my head for a while, I don't feel this age, often I don't act this age, but then I look in the mirror and think "who is that old person staring back at me?".

Full disclosure: There is going to be no full disclosure of my age. But, stay with me.

Granted, I'm not as old as some and it's definitely better that I'm still walking the Earth than the alternative.

But the clincher arrived via a Facebook post a couple of days ago, because really who sends mail these days anyway?

"Hey everyone!" the post started, then it continued: "A few of us were talking 30 year reunion..."

Really? 30 years? Could time have slipped away so quickly without me realising? I've got so much to do still?

Now, I'm sure you've done the sums 30 years + age of leaving school = me. I realise for some people (without age issues like me) that it's really not that old, but I'm feeling more than just a tad old. I remember my Dad turning this old and rolling my eyes thinking he was ancient.

I've also realised that I've now reached the age where I've started reciting those annoying phrases my parents used to say that I swore I'd never say. You know the ones: "one day you'll thank me" and "if all of your friends jumped off a bridge, would you?"

I also need glasses to read and god help my hairdresser if she ever tells me she spots a grey while I'm sitting in her chair.

So, in order to drag myself out of the doldrums, I'm going to sing the praises of someone else who happens to be exactly the same age.

I spoke to fellow NSW northern beaches local Johanna Griggs for this week's cover story on the Northern Beaches Review. She lives about 15 minutes away from where I do and is honestly one of the most down to earth, funny, kind and generous people you're likely to meet.

We laughed a lot during the interview and when she does it's this deep throaty laugh that makes you want to laugh along with her.

If you think she's got a pretty plum job being the host of Better Homes and Gardens, which, by the way, returns to our screens this Friday, think again.

She told me with brutal honesty how rough her start in TV was and how, as her first marriage was crumbling, the bank had repossessed her car and was looking to take her house.

So as I put on my specks, pick up my cuppa and go back to work, I'm going to pull on my big girl pants and think of all the great stuff about being this age - my dream house, a car I love and great family.
