In an interview with Magic 87.6 FM on February 12, Mid-Western Regional Council General Manager, Brad Cam gave confirmation that once approved by the Federal Government, there will be three points of vaccination access in the region.
"We have already started talking about a vaccination clinic being set up in the near future. We have had meetings with Western NSW Health and Police," Mr Cam said.
"We are and will be setting up a vaccination clinic once the Federal Government lets us know when the vaccinations will be available for our region. We're putting the wheels in motion to get that done.
"It's not just going to be in Mudgee, there will be one setup in the Kandos/Rylstone area and one set up in the Gulgong area."
The news follows the ongoing success of Mudgee's respiratory clinic that has been in place for approximately a year.
"We have been very fortunate to have no positive cases of COVID in our region which is attractive despite the number of visitors we get from right around NSW, we're very pleased about that," Mr Cam said.
"One of the great successors has been the fever clinic at the showground. Whenever someone has been feeling well, they've been able to be catered for by having a test there."
The current COVID-19 testing space at the Mudgee Showground is likely to be where the vaccination hub is based.
Vaccine hubs will also be run out at some of NSW's largest hospitals, with Dubbo confirmed as a hub along with Royal Prince Alfred, Westmead, Liverpool, Hornsby, St George, Nepean, John Hunter in Newcastle, Wollongong, Coffs Harbour and Wagga Wagga hospitals.
Those hubs will be the first to offer Phase 1a priority groups the Pfizer vaccine, expected from next month, with the rollout to be conducted in stages.
The Mudgee Guardian has reached out to NSW Health for more information regarding the rollout.
