First taking an interest in the Dragons in 2003, Moriarty has remained one of the most loyal supporters of the club, hardly ever missing a game.

Typically the first man on the field ahead of first grade clashes to place the kicking tee, Russell has nothing but supportive words to share about his local team.

"The first grade team is looking quite good and I think all grades will be in for a good year," he said.

"They're an awesome club with a terrific club culture."

When recalling some of his highlight moments, Russell couldn't look past the 2009 and 2016 Group 10 grand finals that saw Mudgee crowned the title.

"They've always been at the pointy end of the season since the turn of the century. The 2016 and 2009 grand final wins are probably my favourite moments, the final play of both games is what led them to win," he said.

"It was amazing, both games were. In '09 against Lithgow, they were trailing 27-14 with 20 minutes left, and in 2016, they came from fifth on the ladder to win the title."

Russell's top three players from the Mudgee Dragons include Timmy Condon, Jared Robinson and Nathan O'Brien; "they are the ones who are always consistently good and have been there in the big games throughout their respective careers".

Bathurst Panthers, Orange Hawks and Orange CYMS are who Moriarty is tipping to be the Dragons' toughest rivals of this season.

Russell isn't alone in his hopes for a title claim to mark the club's 100th anniversary but says it'll all come down to consistency.

"Being consistent and starting well would be ideal to get into the top three and getting the chance at having a home grand final," he said.

"A lot of people in Mudgee would go to the grand final, even if they don't watch league.

"Winning this year would be an amazing feeling and the perfect way to bounce back after that 2019 grand final, which we won't get into. I wish them the best of luck."

The Mudgee Dragons will be hosting a celebration on April 10 to mark the century.
