Mudgee's Kerry Reynolds and Liz Channon were key parts of the Hunter Western Hornets women's 40's NTL winning team.
Being selected to represent the Hornets is a remarkable honour in itself, with the local region stretching from Orange, Parkes and Dubbo in the west, through the Hunter and as far south as the Central Coast.
The team went through the round games undefeated and met the ACT squad in the semi-final.
A convincing 5-0 win, with the Mudgee ladies both crossing for tries, put the Hornets into the grand final against the Sydney Scorpions.
In the round games, the Hornets ladies beat the Scorpions 3-2.
The second and championship-deciding clash saw the Scorpions with a 4-1 lead part-way through the second half.
An incredible late surge from the Hornets saw them storm home for a 5-4 win and the national title.
Reynolds and Channon weren't the only representatives from Mudgee Touch on the weekend with Justin Gossage and Roy Prasad playing mixed opens with the Sydney Mets.
They went down in their quarter finals to rival Sydney team, the Rebels.
Phil Young played with the men's 60s Sydney Scorpions who made it to the semi-finals where they lost a close encounter with the South Queensland Sharks 4-3.
Also in the men's 60s, Peter Doherty played with the Hornets, who finished sixth.
Erin Perini played in the Hornets women's 30s, unfortunately without fellow Mudcrab Melissa Battersby who was out injured. The team finished sixth.
Mudgee's Kathy Lang also had a busy week serving as referee manager and Roger Lang worked on the medical team.
