From a dream to an established business celebrating five years, Ronnie's Barber Shop is the epitome of growth.
For Ronnie Denniss and fiancee, Jessika Springhetti, it all began when the couple were met with the desire of a relocation from Kempsey following the birth of their daughter, Kelsei.
Boldly, Ronnie decided to publish a post on the Mudgee Community Page and put out some feelers to see if locals would support a barber shop in town.
Twenty-four hours later, the post racked-up over 100 comments, 200 likes and was the instigator for multiple personal messages from residents encouraging Ronnie and his family to make the move to Mudgee.
"We just said to be brave and jump in, and if it doesn't work out, we will pack up and head back to Kempsey and start again," Ronnie's Barber Shop, part-owner and fiancee, Jessika said.
On June 3, 2016, the shop opened, and while things were slow at first, by July, Ronnie was by appointment only due to the line for walk ins constantly flowing out the door.
After 18 months in business, Ronnie and Jess found themselves on the hunt for a new staff member. But, because Jess had become such a familiar face in the shop, she decided to pick up the clippers and get training, and is now on the cusp of completing her apprenticeship.
"We are so lucky to live in a community that supports everyone and loves helping small businesses grow like ours has," Jess said.
It's crazy to think two people in their early 20s can come to a town where they know nobody, except their nan and pop, and open a shop with the simplest of dreams of being a massive trend.Ronnie's Barber Shop part-owner and fiance, Jessika Springhetti
"We went from Ronnie six days a week solo to having three staff everyday, and now not only do we do appointments, we also take walk ins on Monday to Friday to cater for the people who just see our signs and say 'oh I need a cut'.
The barber shop has recently been fitted with a fresh new look, something that is the result of multiple attempts.
"It's been a wild ride but with help from clients and other businesses in Mudgee, we got the renovations we dreamed of," Jess said.
"Ronnie loves his business and takes so much pride in how he can give his clients and their families the best experience. He is always studying new products, haircuts, techniques and desires of the people around him to give everyone what they want.
"He just wanted a place where people can come get a great quality haircut and feel like they can open up, and feel safe and happy in our space."
As a result of the continued growth of the business, a change in location is on the cards, giving the soon-to-be married couple the chance to bring some new ideas to life.
"It's awesome to go from having a little dream to think we've grown this much in five years, and because we are so popular and busy, we might have to go bigger," Jess said.
"It's crazy, we love owning a business and now having amazing staff. We are so excited and hungry for more."
Not only do the staff of Ronnie's Barber Shop 'think the world' of their boss, but Ronnie is widely adored in the local community.
"Ronnie is a great bloke, great partner, amazing boss, he goes above and beyond for his staff and his number one thing is no matter what, family comes first," Jess said.
Our staff think the world of Ronnie and respect him so much for having a great personality, being an understanding boss, and always reminding us that family comes first.
"If someone is sick, needs help, you need time off for family trips or just because you miss our kids, Ronnie always says 'no dramas, you do what you have to for your family they come first'. He is a great human and Mudgee is so lucky to have him.
"Thank you to our clients for being legends and supporting us. We plan to be bigger and better, and continue to give them the amazing quality services they love."
Ronnie's Barber Shop is located at 77 Market St, Mudgee.
