Freestyle rider Brad Birch, owner of Airtime FMX, said it was great to be performing back in front of people and was looking forward to the Royal Bathurst Show. "It has been quiet due to COVID but we are starting to really ramp up our shows now," he said. "A lot of people are just looking to get out again, find some fun things to do and be entertained, and we are more than happy to help."
This year visitors will be treated to a new style show, "The Battle for the Golden Helmet", that incorporates motocross action, ute drifting and some high octane racing. Brad said that the relay style races will get the crowd on their feet.
"The relay races pit the Urban Allstars against the Outback Outlaws to see who wins the Golden Helmet," he said. "Each team has two riders on their Honda CRF450's and one driver in an SS V8 Commodore ute, and there will be five races in each show.
"The races involve freestyle motocross with the bikes racing against each other, then drift utes going head to head, followed by a combined format, all of which will result in plenty of action."
Showtime Entertainment's, Gary Reid, will be making his return to Bathurst as part of the new show format and said he can't wait to see how the Bathurst crowd reacts. "We have worked a lot on the show to make sure we continually improving and offering a style of entertainment that people really enjoy," he said. "Bathurst is well known for it's motorsport and we're confident they will love the Golden Helmet contest.
"The two teams have their utes decked out and ready to go, the Urban Allstars in their crisp, clean ute and the Outback Outlaws in their rural, B'n'S style ute, so between the riders going crazy on their bikes and the guys getting loose with some high speed drifting in the utes, it will be interesting to see which teams takes out the title."
The "Battle for the Golden Helmet" will be held on both Friday and Saturday nights along with Sunday afternoon in the main arena.
