The former TAFE building located at 70 Court St has long been a dream home for groups like Mudgee Concert Band, Mudgee Performing Arts Society (MPAS), and University of the Third Age (U3A).
On Wednesday night (April 21, 2021) , the Mid-Western Regional Council agreed to use the building exclusively for community purposes for 15 years.
University of the Third Age (U3A) president, Heather Rushton has been part of the long journey to see the building used for the community.
We are very pleased we will have a location where we can have all of our classes.

"We are absolutely thrilled because it gives U3A, a home. We are very pleased we will have a location where we can have all of our classes," she said.
Ms Rushton added that the high cost of renting venues had been a significant challenge for U3A.
"Last year, we learnt how important U3A is to seniors in this town, and to their mental health. This space will allow those benefits to continue and keep our costs down."
Councillor Sam Paine shared enthusiasm for the decision, which would help community groups find much-needed stability.
"It's very exciting because there's been a push over the past few years to get a hold of this building in particular, and more generally to have a space where community groups can meet, rehearse and keep their resources."
The Council also endorsed the proposal to utilise part of the 70 Court Street site for Housing Plus to provide emergency accommodation support.
Councillor Sam Paine was pleased with the unanimous decision to endorse the proposal that would see two 600 square metre lots created for emergency housing.
"That's always been a demand for Mudgee, our emergency housing is always full. Council had been working with Housing Plus to establish two new houses, so when this opportunity came up it was the perfect solution," he said.
"It's something that we really need and it's always been strained."
