The photography class snapped away as Mr Saunders spoke to Principal Angela Myles and executive director of Schools for Bathurst Diocese Christina Trimble.

"St Matthew's is starting to rebuild for their secondary campus, and here onsite at Lewis Street this will be an upgraded K to six campus with almost 1.7 million dollars from State Government to go towards building more contemporary learning spaces," Mr Saunders said.

"From my perspective as a local member this is one of our focal points around the growing population, we know Mudgee is probably going through another boom at the moment. That's a great thing but it does bring with it some problems, they're nice problems but nonetheless you still have to look at the ability to educate our families' children."

Principal Angela Myles was thrilled with the announcement.

"This is a really exciting opportunity for us, there's some work to be done here to bring the campus up to the needs of the community. It's about refurbishing what we have already and making it more K to six specific, making sure we have contemporary spaces for kids to play in both indoors and outdoors," she said.

Mr Saunders also made a visit to Mudgee North West Legacy to celebrate their 70th anniversary, as well as the Mudgee Legacy Widow's Club's 50th anniversary.

Legacy Sydney president Nikki Hollis thanked Mudgee North West Legacy for their work in caring for families of deceased and injured veterans over the past 70 years.
