The motion put forward by councillor Russell Holden was to provide $2,500 dollars in financial support as well as logistical assistance for a parade and markets.

Back in their April 2018 meeting, Councillors voted to celebrate Mudgee's bicentenary in 2038 to align with the year the town was gazetted.

The new celebration date was deemed to be more inclusive and culturally sensitive to First Nations people.

However, a group of Mudgee history buffs recently announced their plans to hold their own event to acknowledge the 200 years of European settlement in the area and form reconciliation.

The group have proposed a parade down Church and Market Streets, and market stalls in conjunction with Mudgee fine Foods Markets in Robertson Park after the proposed parade to be held in November this year.

Organiser Ned Dickson said it was crucial for the event's viability that the Mid-Western Regional Council offered the group its support.

Family First Credit Union donated $2500 dollars to the group, but ultimately in order for Mr Dickson's vision to be realised, Council must come to the table and assist with temporary road closures.

The event's future is now in limbo, and back to the discussion stage as the group must try and gather more support.
