For the majority of his life, Tom O'Dwyer has been around motorbikes and racing them is something he was born to do.
The 15-year-old, who moved to Mudgee four years ago from the Northern Territory, recently won his first NSW state title - the NSW State Champion King of MX 85cc.
Despite having won three state titles in the NT before relocating to Mudgee, O'Dwyer said the NSW leg was challenging.
"It feels so great to win another title, especially in NSW where the competition is intense," he said.
"I was feeling really good on the day, everything came together smoothly.
"I got out front early and just enjoyed the ride. The track was in great condition and I was able to get into the flow of the track.
"I just really wanted to enjoy the race meet and thankfully it all came together."
For the Jason Cooper-inspired talent, his love of MX stems from the adrenaline associated with racing.
O'Dwyer also described the sport as a father-son bonding mechanism.
"I love the adrenaline when I'm racing. I have made many good friendships whilst racing and I really enjoy how close my dad and I are because of our love of bikes," O'Dwyer said.
"My dad raced motorcross when he was young. Growing up on a farm and always being around bikes was natural to me.
"My first bike was a four wheel motorbike. Dad used to run after me in the paddock. I had training wheels on my first two-wheel."
Should all go to plan, O'Dwyer will be a contender at the Australian Titles which are to be held in September at Rockhampton, Queensland.
In the meantime, it's all about practice.
"I have been practicing and racing at all the local club meets as well as riding at Bathurst, Dubbo and working with my coaches Aaron Rankmore MXRD and my dad who is always there to guide and support me," O'Dwyer said.
"Big thanks to my sponsors Mudgee Tyrepower, Mudgee Powersports, Dubbo City Motorcycles, MXRD, Darche, and MPE Suspension."
