According to the latest update from the CSIRO and Grains Research and Development Corporation, mouse numbers are moderate to high in the Central West.
A number of local farmers have visited Gulgong CRT to prepare for the possibility of the return.
"The mouse plague of 2021 is clearly not over and farmers will need all the support they can get," NSW Farmers vice president, Xavier Martin said.
"NSW Farmers is encouraging farmers to apply for the zinc phosphide bait rebate of up to $10,000 per farm business."
