In the lead-up to Derby Day at Dubbo, Mudgee trainer Mark Milton said Polished Penny was a far better horse than her record indicated.

That statement was vindicated on Saturday, when the six-year-old mare scored just her second win in 38 career starts.
Milton enjoyed a quinella in the day's opening event, the Ray Nolan Memorial Class 1 and Maiden Plate (1600m), as Polished Penny ($9) beat home stablemate Wiseman ($21) by a half-length.
Polished Penny may have only had one win heading into the event, but she had placed 12 times.

One of those was a second place in a $75,000 Highway event at Rosehill last year while she had recorded back-to-back placings in the lead-up to Saturday.
Polished Penny finished the best in the Ray Nolan Memorial, storming home on the extreme outside to chase down Wiseman and claim victory.
The Brett Thompson-trained favourite Riders Inthe Stand ($3) was third.
Dubbo trainer Clint Lundholm was the lone trainer to finish with a winning double on Saturday after back-to-back victories with Career Change and Tells Tails midway through the meeting.
Elissa Meredith piloted Career Change ($3.50 fav.) to victory in the Maas Homes Maiden Handicap (1000m) while Brooke Stower was in the saddle when Tells Tails ($3.70 fav.) took out the Richie Bros Auctioneers Benchmark 66 Handicap (1000m).
