Should the rain hold off, the eight-race meet is one to be savoured, showcasing, as always, the best of country racing.
Cheryl Crockett's Mackellar's Love is the only local in the running for the Mudgee Cup sprint, with Brett Thompson's Gadfly accepted as the fourth emergency listing.
With Mudgee regular Aaron Bullock in the saddle, Rule The World, trained by Mack Griffith (Mudgee), is a chance at the feature race the $75,000 Robert Oatley Wines Mudgee Cup (1600m) - but will have to fight off challenges from talented runners from all over, including three from Nick Olive (Canberra) - Maid Of Ore, Ready To Humble, Invincible Dash.
The Greg Hook-trained Blue Collar Boy is unlikely to get a run, who was selected as the third emergency.
"The track is looking amazing after recent rain and the club is also undergoing a rebrand which we will launch on the day via our new website and logo, which is exciting for us all", Mudgee Race Club manager, Belinda Holden told Racing NSW.
"We can't wait to welcome all of our regular racegoers, our annual Mudgee Cup guests and VIPs and the many visitors who will witness country racing at its finest in Mudgee.
"And after the dust has settled from Mudgee Cup Day, we will also look forward to hosting the Newhaven Park Country Championships Qualifier on Sunday February 27.
"It will be another great day of racing and a true celebration of regional horse racing - tickets for that meeting are also available on 123tix."
Gates to the event will open at 11am on December 3, with the first race of the day to jump at 1.24pm ahead of the sprint at 4.24pm and feature at 5.04pm.
All those attending must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
