The day is a memorial to local golfer John Hackett, who died in May, following the discovery of a tumour in his brain in December 2011.
It is also a fundraiser for Can Assist Mudgee and Districts and a fun day of golf.
Mr Hackett’s daughter, Michelle Pocock, organised the first John Hackett classic in August 2012 to raise funds for the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, a cancer care centre combining facilities for diagnosis, treatment, research, education and emotional support.
The event raised $43,000 and was fully booked out, its 31 teams and 198 players making it the course’s biggest day in a decade.
Ms Pocock said the family knew they had to organise a second day to honour her father’s memory.
“We had such an amazing and successful event last year, and Dad had such a great day,” she said.
“We thought it’d be great to do a local charity this time.”
This year’s golf day will support Can Assist Mudgee and Districts, the local branch of an organisation that provides financial, social and practical support for cancer patients.
During Mr Hackett’s treatment, the local Can Assist group played a major role in helping with travel costs for him and his family.
The day will start at 11.30am for a noon tee-off, and will follow a six-person ambrose format.
A presentation and raffle will come after the Classic, before the day concludes with live music from Voodoo Express.
“It’s just a day of lots of fun really, doing what Dad loved best,” Ms Pocock said.
Players are required to register in advance - $300 registration fee covers 18 holes of golf, barbecue lunch and a drink each for a team of six.
