For the past 20 years Mr Bishop, and his family from Osory Stud near Mudgee, have been known as one of the best dairy goat breeders in the country.
In the 20 years Osory has exhibited at the Royal Easter Show, they’ve walked away with seventeen Best in Show ribbons and a countless number of champion, grand champion and supreme exhibit sashes.
“We’ve had a history of doing very well as the show for the past 20 years, so I wasn’t all that surprised to do as well as we did this year,” Mr Bishop said.
This year, the Bishop’s - Darrell and daughters Naomi and Krystle - were awarded top honours in 22 categories including Junior Champion Saanen Doe, Grand Champion Junior Dairy Goat Doe, Kid Champion Saanen Doe, Grand Champion Kid Dairy Goat Doe, Supreme Exhibit British Alpine, Most Successful Dairy Goat Exhibitor and Most Successful Sire.
The Bishop’s competed in the British Alpine, Saanen, Anglo-Nubian and Toggenburg categories.
“We had more wins this year then any other year at the Show. We won every Saanen class and even won second, third, fourth and fifth in several of the classes,” Mr Bishop said.
Mr Bishop said Osory Stud even won the interbreed category - pitting the best of each class against each other - and managed to also walk away with Kid Champion, Junior Champion and Senior Champion in one instance.
“It’s been a few years since we’ve managed to do that,” he said.
With an international judge - Herman Hoekstra from the Netherlands - judging the goat section, Mr Bishop said everyone who competed had a very good show with the choice for first, second and third made purely on the quality of the goat and nothing else.
Last year, Mr Bishop was honoured for his lifetime of commitment to the Royal Easter Show by being invited by the show society to take part in the Parade of Champions.
