The 10 other finalists are all from Sydney and include Cafe del Mar, Alpha restaurant, Swine & Co and Balmoral’s Beach House.
The Zin House opened two months ago adjacent to Lowe Wines.
Chef/owner Kim Currie uses local produce as the basis of a six course lunch menu which changes weekly.
The Zin House has sweeping views across the countryside and Zinfandel vineyard from which the restaurant takes its name.
Ms Currie has been an advocate of regional food and wine for over 20 years and is well known for her “produce first” approach to cooking.
She says this is an interesting nomination as she won this category 10 years ago.
“At that time Rylstone Food Store won best new restaurant in a category that covered the Blue Mountains and Central West,” she said.
“Now the category has been called Sydney and surrounds so I’m competing with some very high profile new restaurants. It’s nice just to be a finalist and to see that Mudgee can cut it at this level.”
The winners across all categories will be announced at an Awards for Excellence ceremony on Monday, September 22, at Sydney’s Doltone House.
