The Mid-Western Region lost one of its oldest veterans on Monday with the passing of Richard Alfred “Jack” Cover at the age of 97.

Mr Cover was a gunner in World War II and served on the front line in New Guinea from 1942 to 1945.
He served in places such as Port Moresby and along the Kokoda Track.
Mr Cover had previously told the story of his military service in the Mudgee Guardian and recalled experiences such as using a 25 pounder gun.
The picture above was taken on Anzac Day 2012, which was also his his birthday.
The relatives and friends of Mr Cover are invited to attend his funeral service at St John’s Anglican Church, Mudgee, at 2pm today (Friday, September 12, 2014).
