Mudgee Wolves president Peter Mitchell said the A-League trial match was a success although only 1700 people walked through the gates at Glen Willow Stadium on Saturday.

F3 derby rivals Central Coast Mariners and Newcastle Jets played out a nil-all draw in their final pre-season match before the A-League begins next month.
The Mariners and Jets play each other in round one on October 11 and this was the last opportunity the pair would see each other before that clash.
But in a match that did not live up to great expectations in terms of goals scored, there were a few highlights with both goalkeepers called into action throughout the game to defuse the shots that were on target.
There was one moment when the ball did find the back of the net but Jets’ David Carney’s tap-in from a Sam Gallaway cross and James Virgili pass was disallowed as Carney was ruled to have been offside.
The stalemate was a fitting result considering how even the teams were.
“Hopefully we can pull off a regional A-League match in the future."
Mitchell said it was a good day out but said the crowd was below than what he had expected.
“I am very, very happy with how it all went. Probably, you know, a touch disappointed with the number of people in the crowd,” the Wolves president said.
“We got 1700 there and I was hoping for about 2000 to 2500 people. You can’t do too much about it especially it being a trial match.”
Tickets for the match were $25 for an adult ($15 for under 16s) to sit in the grandstand and $15 for an adult ($10 under 16s) for general admission. Under 12s were free.
Despite the crowd figure, Mitchell hopes A-League teams won’t be worried about bringing matches to regional areas like Mudgee.
“Now that they have seen the facilities and how good they are, we do hope to get other matches,” he said.
“The whole experience [game and coaching clinics on Sunday] for the kids was absolutely tremendous.
“The visiting teams were ecstatic with the facilities. The Jets trained there on Friday and their comments were ‘it was better than what they have in Newcastle’. That’s a really big positive.
