Despite his youth, Munns was called on as a senior player this year amongst the mostly young and untried players in his team – having been a part of the previous season’s record-breaking Waratahs’ premiership team – and answering the call with his deeds on the field.
Week-in and week-out Munns was one of the best players on the paddock for the Waratahs, who unfortunately missed the finals for the first time in a decade.
Munns was also named the top tackler for the Kandos club in 2014.
Kandos High School captain August Pearce capped off a successful first foray into senior rugby league this season, winning the rookie of the year award.
Kynan Murray was named the clubman of the year.
The Madden brothers, club captain and prop forward Steven, and utility back John - the two most experienced players at the club - were awarded the best forward and best back respectively.
The player who showed most improvement from the beginning of the year was Ethan Parsons, unsurprisingly rewarded with the most improved player trophy.
Christian ‘Bud’ Howland, another in his first year with the senior Kandos club, was considered by Glenn Sargent to be the most worthy of the coach’s award, and the encouragement award went to Daniel Steel.
It was announced at the presentation evening that life membership of the Kandos Waratahs club would be bestowed on Julie Sargent, Phyllis Grimshaw and Neville Grimshaw.
The date of the club’s annual general meeting will be announced at a later date.
