George Ford arrived at Mudgee Bowling Club earlier this year and he hasn’t taken long to make an impact.
The lawn bowler won the Caltex Triples tournament with his mates from Blayney Bowling Club, Alan Nunn and Jim Russell.
The trio were one of the two undefeated teams in the competition, and Ford’s crew won the competition by more points.
Ford and Alistar Connell’s team each finished on four-and-half wins from their five games.
But Ford’s team had won 42 ends compared to Connell’s 39.5 and that proved to be the difference in the final points tally – Ford having secured 132 points and Connell 129.5 points.
Ford’s team secured the win during their final match where they stormed home against Nigel Watkins’ team, winning 21-5.
The only blemish on their weekend was their drawn match in round four when they had a 14-all draw.
Connell also had a 16-all draw in their second round match against Ken Sampson’s team.
All teams played five matches each of 15 ends.
Third place was split between Adam Favell’s team and Sampson’s but the former was officially declared as the winner of third spot on a count-back.
By far the youngest team on the greens was Jae Marskell’s side, who had his younger brother, eight-year-old Thomas Rich playing.
After losing their opening two matches, Marskell’s team won their last three games to finish in a tie for eighth.
