Yahoo finance editor, Meena Thiruvengadam, one of 88 international food and wine writers, broadcasters, critics and bloggers touring the country, visited Mudgee this week.  

Through their broadcast audiences, readerships and social media channels the influential guest list commands an international reach of more than 400 million fans and followers.

The New Yorker’s three-day tour included tastings at Mudgee’s finest cellar doors and restaurants including Lowe Wines.  

“I like everything I’ve tried so far,” Ms Thiruvengadam said. 

“It definitely reminds me of the Napa Valley.” 

An ambassador for Tourism Australia’s Restaurant Australia campaign, David Lowe said the objective of the tour was to show the experiences of Australia that had previously been kept secret. 

The visit will culminate on Friday at MONA in Tasmania - recognised by Lonely Planet as one of the top 10 must see regions for 2015 - where guests will be treated to an exclusive dining experience, jointly prepared by Australian chefs Neil Perry AM, Peter Gilmore and Ben Shewry. 

Tourism Australia Managing Director John O’Sullivan said the guests had earned their place at the Restaurant Australia table based on their international influence, reach and ability to inspire consumers in Australia’s most important international tourism markets.

“Through this epic journey these international, gastronomic VIPs will meet the people, visit the places and sample the fresh produce which make our food, wine and culinary experiences extraordinary and truly world class,” Mr O’Sullivan said. 

“More importantly though, they’ll share these incredible stories through their huge followings, helping to inspire the many others to follow in their footsteps.”
