John Simpson could start work any time of the late night or very early morning. The Mid-Western Regional Council electrician is often on call for the region's three water treatment plants.
Some people might dread that call in the middle of the night but it doesn't phase him.
“I'm used to it now,” he said.
Mr Simpson is one of three electricians who work on water plants including sewerage plants and pump stations in Mudgee, Gulgong and Rylstone. If any electrical systems fail he is called out to the plant immediately.
“It could be anything – an alarm at the water plant, power failure, sewerage pump failure,” he said.
