So at just 21 she established performing arts school Stepping Out in Mudgee. 

“It was just something I thought Mudgee was lacking,” said the 23-year-old who has been nominated for an Australia Day Young Citizen of the Year award. 

“I thought let me bring something for the country kids.” 

The school has grown from 15 students in 2013 to 60 with 100 having progressed through the school.

“I just always wanted to do it. I think because country kids don’t have much of a choice.”

Tyrolin teaches all classes at the school in singing, dancing, drama, public speaking and creative writing and has organised two sold-out concerts with students.   

“I love the kids they’re like a second family.”

Beyond the school Tyrolin is a songwriter, published author, performer and playwright. 

Her songs have made it into the Top 25 Australian Independent Music Awards and are played in high rotation on radio stations in America and England. 

Her play,  The Timekeeper Across the Road,  was selected for the NSW Short and Sweet Festival and will be televised next year. As well as starring in Mudgee Performing Arts productions, she hosts annual Reps School of Dance Concerts and has recently helped Mudgee Disability Support Service write their annual play. 

She has been cast in several telemovies including Plonk, filmed in Mudgee in 2014, and was an extra in The Killing Fields, filmed in Gulgong and starring Rebecca Gibney.  

Of all her passions, Tyrolin said writing is her “first and true love”.  

“I love writing because it’s something that comes out of your head and you put it to life,” she said.

She began writing stories at just three years old, substituting words for pictures, and at 18 had her first novel Dumb Luck published. 

Tyrolin is in the final editing stages of her second book. 

Last year she received the Australia Day Glen Johnston Memorial Award for Music.
