Summer McPhail won first prize in the under 14s section at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Mark Germon won second prize, and Isabelle Germon was awarded a Highly Commended.
First prize winner Summer McPhail said her Easter Show photo was a portrait photo of sheep looking for something to drink in a dam with no water.
Mark Germon’s second place photo was taken on a school excursion last year.
“I took my photo at 6.30am in the misty morning on our Canberra excursion last year when the cockies came down for breakfast outside the kitchen door,” he said.
The Gulgong Paparazzi Club started in 2010 as a way for the school students to help record community and school events in their own way.
Students have access to 20 cameras that are both “point and shoot” and digital SLRs.
Throughout the year the students learn tips and techniques that allow them to take award-winning photographs for the Gulgong Show, the Henry Lawson Festival, and of course, the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Mark, Summer and Isabelle said all students at GPS were allowed to use the cameras once they have been shown what to do by Principal and teacher Alan Walker, or one of the older members of the club.
“We have special photo shoot days like splash day, bubble day, or even a night shoot. Sometimes we go to other schools to help them,” Summer said.
You can normally find photos taken by the Gulgong Paparazzi Club at the Gulgong Markets and events around the region.
