William Sonter, aged 73, of Weir Road, Heyfield, was charged with ‘Intentionally or recklessly destroy or damage property’.
At about 4.15pm on Monday, February 23, 2015, police were patrolling the Great Western Highway at Faulconbridge when they pulled into a rest area.
There they saw a motor-home and Sonter using an angle grinder powered by a generator to cut into a sign post that had no sign on it.
When police approached him he stopped and began packing up the equipment, when questioned about his actions he refused to provide an explanation.
When police presented Sonter with a court attendance notice he said, “Sergeant, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, today I lost”.
