This latest round of cuts is targetting pensioners' – however this isn't the only sector of society in the spotlight with the current Liberal – National Coalition Government.
As I see it people at the margins of society are in the focus of the Coalition Government for cuts; Job seekers, families with young children, farmers and now pensioners.
Of course what this will do is further the divide for disadvantaged members of our nation compared to those in secure steady employment.
We should also remember that the current Prime Minister did promise prior to being elected, there would be no cuts to pensions, the ABC, SBS, now public education is probably under consideration with a means test along with federal health funding potentially on the table, not to mention a GP Tax.
Many things we take for granted in Australia as a society that is inclusive of everyone will end if the Abbott Government continues on this path.
Something which occurred to me early in their Government is that; "It's the Liberal way to make you pay" and none more so than now for the current "Team Australia".
Climate Change is also completely absent from the approach of this Government and disadvantaged areas of Australia are missing the opportunity for long term investment with the hurdles put in place for Renewable Wind Energy.
Whilst coal will remain a significant player in the economic (and energy) mix for Australia. As a nation we must seek new industries for the transition when fossil fuels are no longer being extracted.
It is clear to me that we must seek a fairer and inclusive direction and that will only come from the values represented by the Australian Labor Party, especially when we consider Australian icons such as Medicare and education at our universities which are policies from an inclusive Government, that was the Australian Labor Party.
