On Friday the Guardian featured the story of Windeyer woman Kelly Pilley who recently made the difficult decision to amputate her leg that had caused her severe pain due to spina bifida.
Hearing of Kelly’s mounting medical bills, Dimity Bjork rallied other villagers who will host the Big Day Out in Windeyer fundraiser on Saturday, October 3.
“It’s such a small community and the fact that they want to help almost had me crying in gratitude,” Ms Pilley said.
Another story that has come to our attention is that of Riannon Taylor and her family.
Riannon desperately requires a disability vehicle so her mother can transport her to her many appointments as at the moment they are using a Maxi-Cab to get her to where she needs to go. Kelly Dray and Glenn Box are leading the charge asking local businesses to pledge what they can to purchase the special vehicle.
When Dragons player Henry Fisher broke his neck in a first division match between Mudgee and Bathurst St Pat’s last year the community sprang into action raising more than $75,000.
Likewise Mudgee High School’s annual Rainbow Day began in 2002 to raise money for students who had fallen on tough times. Today the fundraising campaign donates proceeds to a particular cause or organisation – this year it is the Mudgee District Hospital Maternity Unit and Mudgee PCYC.
Every cent and dollar in these campaigns makes a major difference to the lives of people like Kelly, Riannon and Henry. Please donate where you can and be proud that we live in such a generous community.
