Mudgee Gulgong Paranormal will host its first official ghost tour at the oldest operating Opera House in the Southern Hemisphere this Friday and Saturday evenings.
Owner of the business Kylie Delaney has been hosting tours in some of Australia’s most historic towns, most recently Gulgong, in the past six years.
“I heard a lot of stories from locals who believe it was haunted by those who once walked the stage,” the medium and paranormal investigator said.
“I’ve also read a lot of articles, newspaper clippings about people (especially locals) believing it was haunted by Dame Nelly Melba, Henry Lawson. Henry Lawson watched his first performance here - Pirates of Penzance. And I was curious to know is it really haunted, I wanted to suss it out. I became interested for that reason.”
Ms Delaney said spirits aren’t always tied to buildings for negative reasons. She said often they are there for reasons of unfinished business or bonds of love.
“With this Prince of Wales Opera House we’ve had a lot of famous actors over the years we had Les Darcy, Dame Nelly Melba, and they all spent time here,” she said.
“They had a passion for being here, it’s where they got a name for themselves and so it’s not that they died here that they haunt the place but it’s because they had a love for it and that’s like a lot of places.
“I’m interested in the history as well. I believe a ghost tour should have a history side and a spooky side. And what a better place to start than something so well known.”
Tour participants will be equipped with the company’s paranormal investigation gear and taken on a tour of the historic building.
“It’s really good for skeptics to rule out a haunting. Really good for those who are seeking a spook. Every tour is different.
Ms Delaney is hoping to host tours in more of the historic locations in Mudgee and Gulgong.
“I think because Mudgee and Gulgong are such historic places a business that has regular ghost tours will bring tourists to town and give them something to do, something completely different.”
Mudgee Gulgong Paranormal will host its first ghost tour inside the Prince of Wales Opera House this Friday and Saturday with two tours each night from 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
