The latest exhibition of work from Gora’s collection was hung last week, and opened on Thursday night.
The collection focuses on Australian landscapes, mainly by artists of the Blue Mountains, which show in oils and watercolour the variety of ways the country can be represented.
“In my religion it says when people come to you, give the best of what you can,” Gora said. “If you can’t do that, give the most of what you can.”
From the front entrance through to the children’s section at the back, the library once again shows a broad range of works collected over many years, presenting a variety of artistic styles and displaying the many forms the Australian country can take.
Gora said he considered many of the artists his friends, and he was pleased to be able to present them to his community in this way.
Cr Max Walker introduced Gora at the opening and said 500 or 600 people every day came through the library and would be able to enjoy the exhibition.
He commended Gora for his willingness to share his collection.
“We all do our best in the community in one way or the other,” Gora said.
“If you pursue it diligently, you bring about a change in the community through your work.”
Gora once again offered a piece from the exhibition to become part of the Mid-Western Regional Council collection.
He also thanked the library and council staff who hang each exhibition and help select the works, likening it to the preparation of a meal.
“It’s in the cooking that time is spent,” Gora said. “The eating is the easiest part.”
