Over 24 hours, the event will be a time not only for fundraising but also for remembrance and reflection and a celebration of resilience and survival. 

The participants’ reasons for joining will be as varied and numerous as the number people at Victoria Park. 

For months before anyone sets foot on the oval, teams have been busy raising money through raffles, stalls, events and much more. 

But although previous Relays for Life in Mudgee have raised astounding amounts of money - around $165,000 in 2014 -  the event goes beyond fundraising. 

It brings the community together in a common cause - to fight a disease that has touched so many people either personally or through others. 

Walkers will remember friends and loved ones, show support for others fighting cancer, or share their own stories. 

Part of the reason for the events popularity is its adaptability.    

Some participants may walk a lap or two,  others may aim to last out the course of the 24 hours. 

It’s open to all ages and people of all levels of ability. 

Those unable to take part in the walk can support the Cancer Council by coming along to buy a raffle ticket or a sausage sandwich. 

No matter what the final tally is, the Mid-Western Region can be proud of supporting an event that offers hope to many, as well as vital funds for cancer research and the care and support of cancer patients.
