Leaders in Round One were defending champions Kate Purcell and Trish Jones, aiming to defend their 2015 title.
The scoring was off to a rocky start with 47 off the stick on the front nine, but after a par at the ninth, things improved, especially the putting to bring them home with 38 for a total of 85.
Their nett score of 73 proved to be the best on the day, giving them the lead in the handicap event as well.
Shelly Best and Abby Wilkins were very happy with their score of 94 for a nett 73 and trail the handicap leaders on count back.
Runners-up in scratch are Julie Headley and Kay Gaffney with 90 followed by Michelle Rhodes and Vicki Stathopoulos on 92 c/b and Debbie Campbell and Bronwyn McDonnell 92.
It’s a tight tussle between Carol Cockerill-Wright and Kathy Underwood (75 ½), Jan Rohr and Jay Moore (75 ½) and Debbie Campbell and Bronwyn McDonnell (76) for the minors in handicap.
The second day went ahead on Wednesday, August 3, though light rain was falling even at the start of play.
Four pairs decided that staying home had more appeal in that kind of weather, so the field was reduced in numbers on the second day.
Trish Jones and Kate Purcell defended their 2015 title with a final score of 172 (85/87).
Runners up were Vicki Stathopoulos and Michelle Rhodes on a score of 182 (92/90).
Anne Kenny, former Mudgee lady member and Australian Champion, was on hand to present her trophy.
Winners of the 36 handicap trophy were Abby Wilkins and Shelly Best with a score of 149 (73/76).
They received the trophy as well as a gift pack donated by Lindsay Underwood from Mudgee’s Cheveux Studio.
Runners up were Carol Cockerill-Wright and Kathy Underwood on a score of 150
