The team of Mia Baggett, Xanthe Forrester, Alesha Bennetts and Milly Browning, won their heat convincingly in a time of 55.47, making them the fastest qualifiers for the semi-final.
They then won their semi-final (one of three semi’s) in a time of 55.28, making them third fastest qualifiers to enter the final behind two Combined Independent School (CIS) representatives - Pymble Ladies College and Penrith Anglican College.
Mia, Xanthe, Alesha, and Milly then earned the title of state champions when they won the final in 54.70sec, with Penrith Anglican College coming in second and Pymble Ladies College coming in third.
Something special was likely with the team considering the lead up to the state event that they had.
En route to Homebush the girls also won and broke the diocesan record in Dubbo back in August, before they went on to win and break the Polding record in Newcastle in September.
The school thanked Justine Brackenrig, who undertook relay coaching with the girls over the last few weeks.
St Matthew’s was represented by more students at the titles.
Flynn English finished 23rd out of 34 for the 11 Years High Jump with a height of 1.30m.
Bede Smeallie finished 29th out of 37 in the preliminaries for the 12/13 year boys 200m with a time of 28.98sec.
Three of the girls relay team also competed in other events.
