Children’s Medical Research Institute’s (CMRI’s) Mudgee committee is celebrating 50 years fundraising on Sunday, November 13, with a long lunch in the gardens of Mudgee’s historic Heaton Lodge.
During its 50 years, the dedicated committee has raised close to $500,000 which has enabled scientists at CMRI to research childhood diseases. Mudgee Committee’s goal is to raise a further $15,000 to reach this significant milestone.
“It is amazing to be part of something that has achieved so much in terms of research and development,” Committee President, Kate Baker, said.
“I am always amazed at the Mudgee community’s very generous support. Our committee has worked very hard and tirelessly to raise money for this worthwhile cause.”
CMRI Director, Professor Roger Reddel, attended the event, and spoke about CMRI’s latest venture, a new cancer research facility called ProCan, which aims to deliver more rapid results and more accurate predictions of the best cancer treatments for each individual patient.
Professor Reddell also took the opportunity to acknowledge the hard work achieved by the Mudgee Committee over the last 50 years.
“CMRI is so grateful for the hard work our committees put into not only raising funds for this important research, but raising our profile. Without our committees, we wouldn’t be able to achieve the research we do,” Professor Reddel said.
The three-course luncheon includes alcohol, tea and coffee at $120 per person. The luncheon will also host a raffle with prizes including return flights to Sydney for two with accommodation at the Sofitel Wentworth and a four course meal at Aria (A Matt Moran Restaurant), a $500 carpet voucher, and a handmade patchwork quilt.
Australian actor, Ryan Johnson, from Doctor, Doctor, will also be attending with his wife and child.
“Both past and present committee members will be celebrating this anniversary on 13th November,” Kate said. “We invite everyone to join in!”
