Tommy Sethack and Marc Tomlinson have come to the aid of 45 bogged and stranded vehicles in the past two and a half months, including a caravan bogged on a front lawn, farm vehicles stuck in paddocks, passenger vehicles and even Dingo diggers.
As the club’s Offroad Recovery Division, the pair began offering their voluntary services and fully-equipped four-wheel-drive vehicles around four months ago.
The team has travelled as far away as Wattle Flat, where on one occasion six different 4x4s had attempted and failed to pull a bogged Colorado out of the forest, resulting in either a bogged recovery vehicle or a burnt out winch.
Club publicity officer Liesel Meers said the team did not charge for their services, asking only for a donation to help cover the cost of maintaining vehicles and keep equipment up to date.
“The team has been working really hard and people have been really generous, Mrs Meers said. “It’s part of the service that the club provides to the community.”
The Mudgee & District 4x4 Club is a family-orientated social and educational group catering to all sorts of vehicles and driver levels. Members meet once a month for driver education and training or events such as weekend camping trips or longer treks.
The Mudgee & District Offroad Recovery Division can be contacted via their Facebook page. The club is supporting “Pink Up Mudgee” during October.
