Organiser Hayden Burlington from the Rylstone Home Brew store said he was happy with the quality of the brew for the first event.
“I was very curious about how each participant’s brew would turn out because they all had the same basic ingredient, in this case, Wal’s Pilsner. It was then up to the brewer to add his own preferences regarding malt or sugar, hops or grain.”
The five judges assessed entries on clarity, head retention, flavour and aroma.
Comments showed most brews were well made and very drinkable. The winner was a delightful pilsner by Geoff Hughes, showing good clarity and flavour.
