In 2014, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad commenced an investigation following reports a seven-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by a man known to her in 2010.
Their extensive inquiries revealed the man – now aged 45 – was residing in Queensland, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Investigators were contacted by Queensland Police Service following the arrest of the man for unrelated matters in Ipswich last Friday (13 January 2017).
Detectives from the Child Abuse Squad applied for and were granted his extradition to NSW at Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday (Monday 16 January 2017).
The man was transported back to Sydney and taken to Mascot Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of sexual intercourse person under 10 – victim under authority, and one count of aggravated indecent assault – victim under authority.
Police will allege the man sexually and indecently assaulted the girl while she was in his care in the state’s Central West in 2010.
He has been refused bail to appear at Waverley Local Court today (Tuesday 17 January 2017).
The Child Abuse Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children, including sexual assault, physical abuse and serious cases of neglect.
