The young triathletes have been mixing it with their senior counterparts at the monthly club races with some outstanding results.
Racing on the back of a four day training camp, the juniors produced the best performances of the season on Sunday, January 8, 2017.
Sian Potter and Bronte Clifford lined up with the senior women in the long course and led the swim pack from the start.
The girls exited the 300m swim together and Sian’s time of 4:55 minutes was not only a personal best but 73 seconds ahead of the senior swimmers.
Sian recorded 58:29 minutes for the long course race putting her in fourth place in the senior line up and first in the juniors.
Bronte’s run time of 14:12 minutes for the three kilometre final leg was the fastest in the women’s field and ahead of most of the senior male runners.
In the short course race which is open to seniors and juniors, ten year old Beau Rohr rode a powerful bike leg and ran the house down to claim his first win.
Captain of the junior squad, Lachlan Wall, was outstanding at the club race.
The three kilometre run time of 12:37 minutes was the third fastest time of the day up against some of the best triathletes in Mudgee.
Squad coach, Brendan Sutton, said the junior Red Devils put in huge performances after the intense four days of training which took the athletes through bike pacing, runs skills, pack swimming and nutrition.
“The highlight of the week was a visit to a quarry,” Brendan said.
“We set up a mock swim course with sighting skills and drafting on the lesson board for the day.”
The Mudgee junior squad – decked out in their new club kit - will be back in action at the next race on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at Lawson Park.
The Mudgee Triathlon Club will enter into a busy period, with three events in as many weeks from this Thursday.
Bathurst will host the January round of the Central West InterClub series, which is an Australia Day event (Thursday, January 26), as oppose to the usual second Sunday of the month slot.

Between the two InterClub dates the next Mudgee Club Race – the fifth of the season – will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at Lawson Park, with long and short course events and the junior competition.
