The Gulgong Terriers conceded their semi-final to Gil 6-nil.
The local side was well represented in the under-23 representative squad picked for the Western Rams selection trials to be played at Parkes on April 22.
With five players selected and skipper Brad James named coach.
The Panthers became back-to-back knockout winners after again lifting the shield in front of a big crowd at Baradine.
They downed an undermanned Dunedoo outfit in their first game which set up the second round battle their grand final opponents for the past two years, the Terriers.
Unfortunately an injury to the Terriers’ fullback James early in proceedings bought the game to a halt and after a lengthy and worrying break they were in no mood to continue the contest and handed the win to the Panthers.
Coming from the bottom half of the draw, the Coonamble Bears rounded up the Coolah Kangaroos in their first game before coming away with an 18 to 6 win over a spirited Baradine in the second round to set up a the final with the Panthers, that Gil won 16-nil
After the knockout the Christie and Hood Castlereagh League selectors named a 21 man Under 23 squad to train for the Western Rams representative games at Parkes on Saturday, April 22.
Attention now turns to the first round of the Christie and Hood Castlereagh League competition, which kicks off this Saturday, (April 1).
The Terriers will begin their season at home in Gulgong when they play hosts to an enthusiastic young Baradine Magpies side.
Traditional arch rivals Coonabarabran and Coonamble will square off at Coona in what should be an entertaining game.
While Gilgandra will be out to make a statement in the first game of their title defence against Trangie at Gilgandra, which will be a Boronia Cup Challenge game.
Warren will host Dunedoo (League Tag only) in the other game and Coolah has the first round bye.
