I called into the Council offices last week to report a dumped washing machine at an area adjoining Flirtation Hill.
The spot amongst the pine trees has become a dumping ground for KFC and McDonalds' litter, along with aluminium cans and glass bottles.
Within four days of reporting it, the area was cleaned-up by Council workers. Thank you.
The Council have responded to concerns about the litter problem at Flirtation Look-out too.
They put in two extra bins which is greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately, the litter 'tossers' continue to rubbish the area, instead of doing the right thing and putting their trash into the bins provided.
The Council do a great job trying to keep our streets and green spaces clean.
It is all our responsibility to help keep our town free from garbage. I recently read on NABO that the Council should do more.
Well actually, they do a great deal.
Surely, if we see someone tossing litter onto the ground we should attempt to educate the culprits? Although any diplomatic advice may well fall on deaf ears!
Maybe we need a complete cultural shift so that dropping rubbish is considered completely unacceptable? All of us should be responsible for keeping our streets and parks clean.
Everyone of us could easily pick-up litter, instead of just walking past it.
Schools could take a proactive approach and organise regular litter pick-ups around the skate park, The Pines and nearby streets. Perhaps this activity could be incorporated into their walking sessions.
Anyone involved in this would then see the issue with their own eyes and would be educated in the process about the importance of not littering.
Thank you to Mid-Western Council for continuing to respond to the litter problem.
It would be great if everyone of us could take responsibility for keeping our town free of rubbish.

Do you have an issue to raise? A thank you for someone in the community? An interesting fun fact? or a story from the region?
