Cheree Edwards, former Kandos resident, and Accredited Practising Dietitian, has returned to the community to open a private practice at Kandos Advanced Medical Centre. “I’ve dreamed of running my own private practice, but opportunities, timing, or my own fears have meant it has never happened. When I returned to Kandos In January, I had an encouraging conversation with Dr Sam, and it became apparent through our conversation that the opportunity and the timing was, for once, spot on.” Cheree completed her Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Wollongong in 2005. She has worked in metropolitan hospitals, remote Indigenous communities in the NT, and both hospitals and community settings in Northern Ireland and Scotland. Cheree acknowledges that people can fear judgement from health professionals, as well as worry that they may be given advice that is expensive or unrealistic to adopt at home, “My goal is never to put people on strict diets or expensive supplements. My role is to provide evidence based education and advice.” Cheree will be offering a ‘no-gap’ service for clients that have GP Management Plan or Team Care Arrangement – specifically obtained by a GP for patients that have a chronic medical condition that has been, or is likely to be present for six months or longer. Cheree will also offer ‘no gap’ services to Department of Veteran Affair Gold Card holders, as well as offering private health fund rebates.
