The Waratahs were jubilant with their best performance all year and coach Nathan Annetts was pleased his players could put together on the field what they had been practising on the training paddock.
Three tries each were scored by John Madden and Ethan Parsons, with Annetts touching down twice.
Brothers Ethan and Hayden Cini bamboozled the Bears’ defence virtually every time they touched the ball, both stepping past the defence a number of times or putting teammates through gaps, the win auguring well for this weekend’s game against Portland.
The Nathan Boundy Shield, contested by Lithgow Bears and Kandos in conjunction with their premiership match-ups, will be held until next season by the Waratahs after twice beating the Bears this year.
The shield is in memory of Nathan Boundy who played for both Midwest clubs and took his life earlier this year, the match was also to help raise awareness of mental illness and prior to the game the Lithgow Walk n Talk took place.
The trip to Lithgow was a good one for the Kandos club, with League Tag team the Tiara-tahs returning to the victors list.
Winless for the last three games, they reversed that trend with their 56-4 win over Lithgow.
Skipper Emma Ashford scored a treble, but Georgie Whitfield was best on ground with an outstanding game, scoring six tries and kicking seven goals for a match total of 28 points.
The Kandos sides take on Portland this Saturday.
The men’s clash is an important one, with Portland sitting in fifth spot on the ladder and the Colts wanting the win to consolidate their position and sixth placed Kandos needing the two points in their fight to remain within striking distance of the top teams.
Portland will commemorate the anniversary of the passing of only child Simon Williams, with the Simon Williams Memorial Charity, set up to help families cope with the loss of a child.
