Hosted by the Oriental Hotel, the evening aims to welcome new health workers and professionals into the fold in the Mid-Western district, and to provide an informal platform for getting to know new associates.
The evening is also seen as a good networking forum for those that are new to the area, and allows for interactions outside of a work environment for many workers that often share buildings, roles and jobs, but don’t have a chance to properly socialise.
A host of doctors, nurses, allied and community health specialists, pharmacists, para-medical officers and many more were at the event to meet new student doctors attending from the University of Wollongong as well as newly appointed doctors and others.
Dr Katie Williamson, a member of the Mudgee Health Council and the event’s organiser, gave the opening address.
“When I first came to Mudgee some years ago, it was this event that gave me an opportunity to meet many of the people I was destined to work with, and made me feel very welcome in the Mudgee community”. Katie said.
“I am sure that for those of us who are new to this wonderful town and district you will enjoy the professional challenges your work will bring, and the pleasures living here”.
The event is also part of the association between the Mudgee Medical Centre, the South Mudgee Surgery and the Wollongong Medical School that has now been ongoing for nearly ten years.
Each year, Mudgee trains up to four students and allows the Wollongong University to provide experience for their new students.
