Not only did the Saints get to celebrate premiership success through their ladies league tag side, but the club also had plenty of strong individual performers in a season where three Pat’s teams enjoyed finals football.
Best and fairest awards for each grade went to Greg Behan (premier league), Nick Millar (first division), Luke Bain (under 18s) and Meredith Jones (league tag).
The Brendon ‘Stubby’ Collits Award for most dedicated club player went to under 18s workhorse Bain.
The Jack Arrow prize for best clubman of the season went to Rhys Frame.
“The Jack Arrow award is one that doesn’t always go to a player. It can go to a volunteer or coach. There’s so much behind the scenes that Framey has done for the club,” Pat’s president Dave Chapman said.
“He had a strong involvement with the league tag team, and he did a great job putting together a team for reserve grade when they were struggling for numbers.
“He’s a great leader on the field as well. He’s probably one of the lightest front rowers in the competition and plays above his weight.
“There’s one boy in the club who gets the water and kicking tees for the team and when the league tag girls won their grand final Rhys gave his medal to him, which was amazing to see.
“With Luke you always know you’re going to get a reliable performance. With a few more kilos on him he’s going to be very damaging.
“The Stubby Collits award is held in high regard, and its given to someone who epitomises the values of the club, which Luke has always done.”
Behan also picked up the best forward gong in premier league – making him the only person to double up for an on-field award.
It was an encouraging season for the man who is set to take up the coaching reins at the club in 2018.
“He’s one of those players who is able to spur on and encourage everyone around him. He’s great with his words and backs them up with his actions,” Chapman said of Behan.
The club broke new ground by awarding the Grey Halos Player of the Year to under 18s player Mick Latu.
“We broke tradition there because it’s normally something that goes to a premier league player. In saying that, he had a successful debut there against Cowra where he scored two tries,” Chapman said.
“I’ve spoken to Greg Behan and he’s definitely part of his plans for next year.”
The player’s player awards went to Andy Adams (premier league), Frame (first division), Riley Cheshire (under 18s), Bronte Emanuel and Amy Copping (both league tag).
