Led by Liz Watters, the store has built a strong reputation for its unique items and its peculiar all-year-round activity.
It’s not as if Liz has gone cold turkey on Christmas or her shop, it’s just hard to continue to work at the rate she does.
“The shop is open for 10 months a year,” Liz said.
“In the 11th month I go buying and the 12th month I set up to reopen for the following year.
“So, rather than do all that I’m just going to sell online and in November and December I’ll pop up somewhere in Mudgee and service the customers who have all become friends in the last ten years.”
Liz described Christmas as ‘tactile’ and feels like that’s a big reason why she’s drawn so many visitors over the last decade.
“If you see something online versus seeing it face-to-face, there’s a big difference.”
“You get to feel how smooth it is and see how cute it is and you can’t do that online.”
Another thing that makes The Christmas Shop so jolly is the festive feeling you get as you walk inside.
It’s small, stylish, elegant and according to Liz, makes kids say ‘oh wow!’
“You don’t get that feeling in bigger shops,” she said.
You’ve still got over a month to visit Liz at The Mudgee Christmas Shop and if you want to brighten up your house before Santa Claus comes knocking, it’s a must-stop.
