Two of the questions on the short survey sought thoughts on what the new hospital should provide.
Much of what people say is now being seriously considered in the current planning process for the new building.
Mudgee Health Council chair, John Bentley, who represents the community on the planning group, said “we have provided a full report of the community survey to Stuart Landrigan, the senior Health Ministry representative on the planning team. That team meets every fortnight in Mudgee, with our hospital and community health staff playing a major part in those meetings”.
“Our community said in part and very clearly that there was need to expand services for oncology, dialysis, surgical procedures and end of life care here in Mudgee, to lessen the travelling issues to access particular services in Dubbo, Bathurst and Orange’, John said.

“What is pleasing is a three-way alignment of what the community has prioritised in these areas for the new hospital, what the Clinical Services Plan prepared by the local Health Service clinicians and other staff says, and what the planners are suggesting.
“While we will never get everything we want, Health Council is pleased with the level of consultation offered to date by this planning process,” John said.
“We are also keen to make sure that the various units of the building are sensitively linked so patients and visitors can flow easily within it, that patient spaces are designed to provide fresh air, privacy and where ever possible an outlook from a bed, and, very importantly also, to make sure there is adequate public parking.”
