After visiting Orange, Bathurst, Mudgee and Dubbo, the field took to Carcoar on November 5 to tackle Mount Macquarie which is one of the more daunting challenges presented to the runners.
Competitors were able to compete in 10-kilometre runs and full marathons (42 kilometres), however the 21-kilometre run or ‘half marathon’ was the only race that counted toward the overall championship standings.
Age groups were split into under 18s, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and over 60s.
Kali Newcomb was among Mudgee’s top achievers, finishing in third place for the 40-49 age group at Carcoar, earning herself equal second in the final series rankings.
Newcomb was the only Mudgee competitor to compete in all five series events throughout 2017.
After winning the Dubbo event, over 60s competitor Gary Wood blitzed the competition at Carcoar, beating out 40-odd competitors to be crowned NSW Regional Long Distance Champion for his age group.
Former Mudgee resident, Jenny Wood ran first in the 20-29 age group at Carcoar, finishing third overall for the series.
Mudgee girls Carly Sewell, Amelia Greenwood, Lauren Hooke and Jodie Inder finished fifth in the teams marathon.
Event director Andrew Baulch looks to promote the 10-kilometre and full marathon events to be a part of the championships for 2018.
