Starting on Friday at 5.30pm, Andrew Best will lead the Super Kings as they play Luke Sheppard and the Hurricanes in a match where both sides will be looking to get their first win.
At 6.30pm on Saturday, Jacob Edmond and the Thunder will do battle with the top of the table Strikers who are captained by Ben Reynolds.
Reynolds, who is also the founder and communications officer for the tournament, started the competition to limit the time local players spent on the pitch.
Since its inception, Reynolds has been overjoyed with the amount of players that have come out of the woodwork to give it a go.
“With shift workers and guys with families it’s hard to ask them to give up a full day on Saturday for cricket and that’s how the concept came around,” Reynolds said.
“Some of the guys who played in round one hadn’t played cricket in the last five or ten years.
“So, to see them back playing is awesome.”
Ben is hoping for fans to show their support throughout the 14-round season and urges cricket fanatics to make their way down to Victoria Park to enjoy a barbecue and some fast-paced action.
Ollie Hollow does Gulgong proud
Western ended its NSW Primary School Sports Association Boys’ Championship campaign in Orange with a loss to Sydney South West on Thursday.
Gulgong Public School gun Oliver Hollow donned a Western cap during the week and led his team with 24 in his side's final clash on Thursday, with Western bowled out for 78 in a 27-run loss to the Sydney-based outfit.
The boys finished the carnival with a win, the red and greens claimed a comfortable six-wicket win over North West on Wednesday.
The Jordan Moran-coached hosts restricted North West to 6-126, before Parkes pair Ryan Dunford and Hunter Hawke added an unbeaten, fifth wicket partnership of 49 to secure the win. Hollow scored 21 in the chase.
Dunford was Western’s best with the ball too, he took 2-19 opening the bowling before working his way to a controlled 46 not out. He and Hawke (23 not out) came together with the score at 4-78, and pushed all the way to victory.
Meanwhile in Thursday’s final, a match-winning partnership from young guns Cameron Tunks and James Moore inspired Combined Independent Schools to an emphatic victory in Thursday’s NSW Primary School Sports Association Boys’ Championship final.
It was the side’s first title win since 2002.
