The 3500 old sleepers will be removed by an experienced team of thirty two gangers.
New long life steel sleepers will be inserted at a rate of one to four and 1000 tonnes of stone ballast will be used to make the track suitable for a tourist train.
Fourteen large machines were needed for the heavy work. The forecast rain didn’t upset the gangers who toiled through the showers.

HSC Visual Arts and Textiles and Design Display
Gallery 47, Rylstone has an excellent display of the Kandos High School students’ work.
The planning for the works presented by the students for the Higher School Certificate, began in 2016.
Visual Arts teacher Kat Brown, said, “The body of work is culmination of a year of effort by the students, who are self directed, with critical dialogue and guidance.
The students have intellectual autonomy, for their art works.” Under the guidance of teacher Cheryl Murray HSC works in Textile and Design are on display.
The exhibition is open to the public until the end of December. Photo by Cheryl Murray.
