Police have charged a man following investigations into a fire that burnt-out thousands of hectares and destroyed a truck in the state’s Central West earlier this year.

On Tuesday, January 10, a 52-year-old man allegedly started burning rubbish on a property in Wuuluman, near Wellington, during a high-fire danger period.
Police will allege the man attempted to extinguish the fire; however, his attempts were unsuccessful.

The following day (Wednesday, January 11), a fire took hold and burned through about 2675ha and destroyed a Wuuluman Rural Fire Service truck, along with kilometres of fencing.
The fire was eventually brought under control.
Following extensive investigations by officers from Orana Local Area Command, a 52-year-old man has been charged with cause or set fire to the property of another, or Crown.
He is due to appear in Wellington Local Court on 16 January 2018.
